Anchors at Milngavie Fire Station...
The Anchor boys had a real treat when they got to visit Milngavie fire station to learn more about the kind of service they provide us with. The boys got a tour of the station and were shown lots of the fire rescue equipment. After getting a quick drive in the fire engine the boys got to use the hose and despite the cold weather would have played there all night. After returning into the station they got to the see the inside working of a fire engine before spending the remainder of the night trying to climb the firemans pole. If the boys had their way they would insist we installed one in the BB Hall! All in all a great night out enjoyed by all. Anchors hunt the Haggis...!!!
The Anchors enjoyed a fun filled night celebrating Burns night. The Boys first talked about Rabbie B before moving on to an exciting haggis hunt throughout the hall dressed in haggis hunting outfits. The Boys moved through the hall surviving extreme temperatures (we had to check the freezer!) and dark caves (its alright we had torches) before a final stand off with a rare chocolate haggis that put up quite a fight! After some Scottish themed games and poems recited by each of the boys, they got tucked into the haggis, shortbread and some irn bru while listening to a story. A night to be remember by all. Community focus for Anchors...
The Anchors have enjoyed learning about our community since the turn of the year, including road safety and helping charities. As part of 1st Bearsden supporting the "Breast cancer campaign", the Anchors made "Top Hats" to be sold at the tuck shop for Junior and Company sections. Christmas Market 2008
On the morning of Saturday 6th December, 1st Bearsden held its annual Christmas Market in the BB Hall.
The event was well attended, especially considering the freezing conditions outside. There was a wide variety of
Christmas gifts on sale as well as a home baking stall, 0&5 stall, a drawing competition and various games.
From the efforts on the day, a grand sum of £1800 was made.
Many thanks to those that helped during the
day and to those parents and friends who supported the event.
Enrolment Parade - Session 2008/2009
The Enrolment Parade this year was to New Kilpatrick Parish Church. There was an excellent turnout from each of the 3 Sections,
and the weather behaved itself as well.... !
The
Central Churches of Bearsden, to which 1st Bearsden are attached, take it turn to host and conduct Parade Services, such as
our annual Enrolment Service. Later this Session, we will parade to two of the other churches to which we are attached,
Baljaffray Parish Church and All Saints Episcopal Church.
Community focus for Anchors...
Boys from the Anchors Section recently took part in a Spellathon challenge in aid of Yorkhill Children's Foundation. Apart from having great fun in this event, the Boys and their generous supporters managed to raise £655 for the Foundation. Well done to all those involved.
