Trips & Camps
In the Summer of each year the Company Section go camping. While this may include the traditional style canvas camp, we also have alternative camps where we stay in purpose built
accommodation. We regularly camp in Scotland but this doesn't stop us from clocking up air miles, by travelling to the USA, Denmark and Finland in recent years.
Overviews of some recent camps are detailed below. Don't forget to go to the photo gallery to see photos from each camp.

Meggernie and Inverness - 2009 Accompanied by the Americans who hosted us in 2008, the Company Section travelled to Meggernie, Glen Lyon and then northwards to Inverness. The camp site in Meggernie offers fantastic on-site activities and is within reach of Pitlochry and the Scottish Crannog Centre, both of which we visited. Our campsite was at the heart of Glen Lyon and is surrounded by spectacular scenery, ideal for our on-site Highland games. |

Wisconsin, USA - 2008 For the second time in five years, the Company Section travelled to Wisconsin, USA, where we have formed close ties with the Boys' and Girls' Brigade of Fox Valley. The Brigade in Wisconsin have their very own campsite and activity centre, called Onaway Island. It is here where our group spent most of their two week trip. Camp Onaway has a whole range of activities on-site and, given that it is an island, has great water-sport facilities. Our group had the opportunity to try out canoeing, water skiing, indoor games as well as activities with the American hosts and fellow Danish campers. We were also privileged enough to have a surprise visit from players of the Green Bay Packers, one of the largest American Football teams. Before and after camp, our group spent some days with the families of Brigade members from America, with whom they could explore Neenah (a city in Wisconsin) and the surrounding area. |

Fordell Firs - 2007 In 2007 we returned the compliment by hosting members of FDF Bjerringbro, who hosted us in Denmark in 2006. We camped at Fordell Firs, just east of Dunfermline, and enjoyed all of the onsite activities, such as go-karting, abseiling, climbing and biking while also visiting St Andrews and Edinburgh for the day. With the weather somewhat volatile, we retreated to indoor archery or swimming if the rain got too heavy. When we all returned to Bearsden, campers had the chance to spend the day with our Danish guests and all were invited to an end-of-camp ceilidh. |

Denmark - 2006 Every five years FDF, a Danish sister association to the BB, holds a national camp in which FDF groups across Denmark, and indeed affiliated organisations from across the globe, gather. 2006 was such a year and the 1st Bearsden were invited by FDF Bjerringbro to accompany them to camp. Arriving a few days before camp began gave the group the chance to meet with some Danish FDF members and explore Bjerringbro and neighbouring towns. Because the camp is open to every FDF group, attendees were in the thousands. The camp, situated in the Danish countryside, is divided into smaller clusters based on ages but regularly meets up in a vast area for concerts and shows. The entire camp is built completely from scratch using logs and it is up to each group to build their campsite. Fortunately, our Danish hosts were skilled woodsmen.
